Coffee tables are augmented in front of the sofa
Bed in the CAVE2, Hmmmm!!!
I tested the application IStaging in two different locations at the lab with two different pieces of furniture as shown in the snapshots above. The main goal of these two applications is to help customers in making the decision and to enhance their shopping experience. Augmented reality is a lightweight technology that is helpful in many domains. It can be beneficial in situations in which additional information is required to be added to the real world. It can be applied to educational, industrial, and commercial fields. I’ve read about the using of augmented reality application to help worker to pre-visualize hard to reach places like underground pipelines. Using such technology reduced damages due to wrong excavation by having underground pipelines virtually pre-visualized on the ground surface. One of the most attractive domains for augmented reality is the architecture field. Augmented reality has been using to help designers to visualize what they are building. Designers can see a virtual prototype of their design in its real measurements for further enhancements.
The technology of augmented reality can be used in future applications when it’s hard to tests things with real objects. Dangerous scenes in movies, for example, can be tested first with virtual characters. Since the virtual content can be placed and registered correctly, spatially and temporally, the scene can be adjusted for safety before involving a real actor. The display of the technology I expect to be moved easily to regular camera devices as the technology is largely dedicated to handheld video displays.
Additionally, the theme of exhibitions halls can be enhanced using augmented reality to add virtual objects like extinct specious. That is potential with the advances in spatial augmented reality that detaches the display from the user into the environment.
To address collaboration demands, Tele-presence is a hot topic in augmented reality field. Although it’s not on the market shelf yet, an effort has been made to push its development wheels. It aims to bring a remote person virtually into your space. To enhance the user experience, Tele-presence concepts depend on producing a convincing illusion by configuring the augmentation with the surrounding environment. Its ultimate goal is to augment the two ends, to combine the two locations virtually. The remote person is brought virtually to the local space on one end, and he’s surrounded by the local place virtually on the remote end. In future, your friends can magically appear in your living room.
The concept of Tele-presence augmented reality therefore can be extended to different future applications from fields including gaming, entertaining and education. We've seen recent features of Snapchat that you can place a character of you in the room. Soon, people might be able to place a character of them on their friends places. In the future, people might augment our world collaboratively. You might walk down the street and see virtual possessions belong to other people. Well, You might see your friends walking on the street "virtually" and be able to talk to them.
All applications that are mentioned above are prospective applications of augmented reality. The technology can be applied for entertaining and educational purposes to some extent as well as applications from industrial, and commercial fields.
